If you want to direct a domain name that you have to some other domain name or subdomain, a good way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain name being forwarded loses all its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it's directed to. That way, if you use a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be redirected to the site that you've set up, but it will also be displayed in the browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to redirect all the visitors from different subdomains to their main domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain simply because such a record set up for the main domain address renders it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Website Hosting

If you have a shared website hosting plan from our company and you wish to create a CNAME record, it will take you just a few mouse clicks to get it done. You can access the DNS records for all domains and subdomains hosted inside your account via the Hepsia CP that comes with each and every plan and adding a new record is as basic as clicking on a button, selecting the type, which is CNAME in this case, typing the actual record value and saving the change. In case you have never added this sort of record before, you will find a Help section with a detailed video tutorial which you can watch, or you can simply contact us and we will assist you with this task. If you have built an Internet site using another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you would like to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different company, like Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a few mouse clicks within your CP.

In case you have never used a web hosting service before, our Control Panel is quite intuitive to use, so you will not have any difficulties. We also have a short video and a detailed help article regarding how to set up a CNAME record, both of which are located in the exact same section of Hepsia. With this function, you could easily use a domain address hosted on our revolutionary cloud hosting platform for an Internet site created somewhere else, set up a custom webmail login address with any of your domains, and much more.
